Abstract

We describe the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of a supramolecular trisporphyrin complex on mesoporous TiO2 films. The dye sensitised solar cell performance as well as the interfacial charge transfer kinetics have been evaluated. A large improvement has been achieved with the supramolecular assembly when compared with the individual molecular components when utilized in photovoltaic devices. The advantage of the supramolecular system is two-fold: improvement of the photocurrent and retardation of the wasteful recombination dynamics between the photo-injected electrons in the TiO2 and the oxidised electrolyte.
