Abstract

trans-[PtCl2(CnH2n+1OC6H4CHCHC5H4N)(η2-CH2CHCmH2m+1)](2) form stable smectic A mesophases on heating (for n7, m7; n8, m5; n9, m2; and n11, m0); melting temperatures below 50 °C can easily be achieved.
