Abstract

Current models predict the hose instability to pose a strong constraint for the applicability of plasma-wakefield accelerators. The presented work demonstrates that self-consistent effects occurring during excitation of the plasma-wave and initial properties of the beam can suppress the hose instability. In addition, a new method for the reduction of the hose seed by shaping of the plasma target is proposed. We find excellent agreement between our theoretical models and PIC simulations.
