Abstract

Canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) is considered a disease of public health that is rapidly growing in the country. In a literature review was made an approach focused in the pathogenesis, clinical signs that included classical dermatology alterations, on diagnosis of CVL, and the possible treatment of infected dogs. We also discuss the policy of elimination of dogs, as a control method of leishmaniasis transmission. ; A leishmaniose visceral canina (LVC) é considerada uma doença de saúde pública, que está em franco crescimento no país. Em uma revisão da literatura foi feita uma abordagem sobre a patogenia, sintomas clínicos incluindo as alterações dermatológicas clássicas, métodos de diagnóstico da LVC, além do possível tratamento dos cães infectados e métodos de prevenção. Discute-se também a política de eliminação de cães como método de controle da transmissão da LVC.
