Abstract

This paper describes experimental and numerical procedures to estimate contact pressure and friction torque of radial elastomer lip seals on a rotating shaft. In particular, it is aimed at establishing a connection between numerical and experimental investigations, useful to properly evaluate the resistant torque on the shaft at different pressure exerted on the lip oil side. The friction varies significantly at different temperature, pressure and rotating speed conditions, suggesting useful indications for real applications.
