In order to evaluate potential adaptation and production of the main varieties of Brassica napus and Brassica carinata traded in Italy in the years 2009-2010 some experimental trials were made in six different Italian locations, separately for the two species, considering 30 cultivars for the first one and 5 for the second one. The oilseed rape has generally provided satisfactory productions, highlighting the superiority of the hybrid cultivars’ production: among all, Excalibur, Pulsar, Tassilo, Exagone, NK Formula have distinguished themselves, in addition to Alpaga. The latter is the only pure line of the merit group, which has showed the best oil content. B.carinata showed less productive capacities, in particular relatively to oil content which production reached an average level of less than 9 percentage points. In any case, among all the compared varieties, the best performances were assessed by CT 180 CT 204 and Serena, which reached very appreciable results
