Forty-eight Italian Duroc x Large White pigs (body weight 53 kg) were used to determinate the effect of crude glycerin and sunflower cake, derived from high oleic sunflower partially dehulled seeds, on growth performances and meat quality of heavy pigs. Pigs were divided into three groups: control ( conventional diet); glycerin ( 5% of crude glycerin in substitution for the same dry matter of corn; sunflower cake(15% of sunflower cake as total replacement of soybean meal). The pigs were slaughtered at approximately 165 kg of BW. The rearing and slaughtering performances were not significantly influenced by diets. Tha backfat from pigs fed the sunflower cake showed a higher content of MUFA and a lower content of SFA than the control and glycerin groups. Sensory analysis showed the meat from the glycerin group less juiciness than the other thesis.
