Abstract

We measured NMR, Raman spectra and AC impedance for BaO-ZnO-P2O5 glasses. The short-range order of these glasses was based on metaphosphate (Q P 2) structure. A part of O-P-O bonding was broken and the mobile proton concentration increased for ternary BaO-ZnO-P2O5 glasses. The protonic conductivity was 2 × 10-7 S/cm for 30 mol%ZnO-10 mol%BaO-60 mol%P2O5 glass at 200 oC. Co-doping of the cations with different coordinate numbers is effective to improve the protonic conductivity for phosphate glasses.
