Abstract

In bovine the 2B MHC gene has been identified at genomic level and several cDNA fragments were sequenced; this gene was not expressed in numerous skeletal muscles while type 1, 2A and 2X MHC isoforms were present. The 2B MHC cDNA and the corresponding 2B MHC protein were found only in a special muscle such as the retractor bulbi. Our data show that in bovine the 2B gene is present but is not expressed in skeletal muscles; the pig is the only large mammal where the 2B MHC is expressed in skeletal muscles.
