Abstract

The aim of the research is to develop compositions of ceramic slurries to receive proppants by spray drying which can be applied in the process of hydraulic fracturing in the exploitation of deposits of shale gas. It is commonly known that in the process of forming of ceramic materials from slurries deflocculants play an important role, the presence of which facilitates the process of granulation. In present study the effect of 3 different deflocculants: Dispex N-40, TSH and Polikol added in an amount of wt. 0.25% relative to the solid phase in the slurry was investigated. Slurries with a solid content of wt. 50% bauxite, clay, and mixtures of these materials with wt. 10 % addition of ash resulting from the combustion of coal were prepared. The powders were characterized using XRD, XRF and SEM with EDS analysis in the micro-area and particle size distribution by the method of laser diffraction. The slurries were characterized using rheological studies by determining the dynamic viscosity in rheometer and technological researches, such as the kinematic viscosity by Zahn cup #4, the density and pH. Obtained results showed the impact of deflocculants addition on the properties of slurries. It has been found that the type of flow agent has a significant effect on the properties of tested slurries, which can be useful in the formation of ceramic proppants in spray dryer.
