Abstract

We report herein a novel supramolecular synthon based on the electrostatic compression phenomenon. A zwitterionic squaric acid/squaramide compound serves as model for the design of new face-to-face pi-stacked architectures in the crystalline state which, in combination with charge-assisted hydrogen bonds, can be used to synthesize multicomponent crystals.
