In order to provide a basis for the resource, development and application of insect tea in Guizhou Province, we investigated the species and distribution of producing insect tea insect, host plant, cultivars of insect tea and the utilization situation of insect tea by using outdoor field investigation and indoor rearing and identification. The result showed that there were totally 5 producing insect tea species: Aglossa dimidiata, Pyralis farinalis, Orthopygia glaucinalis, Lista haraldusalis, and Martyringa xeraula; 4 main host plants: Litsea coreana, Actinodaphne cupularis, Platycarya strobilacea, and Malus sieboldii; 8 cultivars of insect tea: Aglossa dimidiata- Litsea coreana insect tea, Aglossa dimidiata- Actinodaphne cupularis insect tea, Pyralis farinalis - Litsea coreana insect tea, Pyralis farinalis- Actinodaphne cupularis insect tea, Martyringa xeraula- Litsea coreana insect tea, Lista haraldusalis- Platycarya strobilacea insect tea, Lista haraldusalis- Malus sieboldii insect tea, and Orthopygia glaucinalis- Platycarya strobilacea insect tea. Moreover, insect species used for factory-based mass productions of insect tea were Aglossa dimidiata and Pyralis farinalis, host plants were Litsea coreana and Actinodaphne cupularis in Northern Guizhou Province, while insect species used to produce insect tea were Orthopygia glaucinalis and Lista haraldusalis, host plants were Platycarya strobilacea and Malus sieboldii in Southeast Guizhou Province.
