Abstract

A reactive transport model has been built to predict the weathering of sulphides contained in soils. The model has been tested to describe the evolution of the pore water chemistry and solid phases of a column experiment. The column was filled with pyritic sludge mixed with a sandy soil representative of the soils affected by a mine-tailing spill. The model is used to predict the behaviour of other soil types and other sludge contents.
