Abstract

Himalayan musk deer a shy and elusive animal difficult to assess with naked eye. In Gilgit-Baltistan, its population and distribution was reported by earlier authors either on the basis of indirect signs or by interviewing poachers. This study under the aegis of UN project in collaboration with Parks and Wildlife department of Gilgit-Baltistan, a camera trapping survey was conducted in Kala Pani valley in district Astore of Gilgit-Baltistan that produced first ever snap musk deer from Gilgit-Baltistan, this study reports a total of six musk deer in a 25 km radius.
