Abstract

A novel polymeric complex, [Mn(phen)(pdc)]∞ (phen=1,10-phenanthroline, H2pdc=2,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid) has been synthesized from the hydrothermal reaction system of H2pdc, phen, MnO2, and H2O. [Mn(phen)(pdc)]∞ is characteristic of an edge-sharing dinuclear MnII structure unit bridged by pdc, leading to a 2-D framework whose stacking is based on weak H-bond interaction. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility for [Mn(phen)(pdc)]∞ indicates antiferromagnetic coupling [J = −2.76(4)cm−1] between the adjacent paramagnetic MnII ions.
