Abstract

In this study, we investigate CdSe based core−shell quantum dots as potential active materials for nonlinear optical applications. A detailed characterization of the linear and nonlinear optical properties is carried out for QDs in solution and within two electronically similar sol−gel hosts, hafnia and zirconia. The favorable absorption and emission properties of the solid-state hybrid sol−gel/QD matrices are exploited for the realization of up cavity-less laser.
