Abstract

By the combined processes of dry silver film electromigration, wire grating assisted ultraviolet (UV) exposure, heat treatment for nucleation and crystal growth as well as the final reductive treatment under H2 atmosphere, polarizing glasses of large size can be achieved successfully. The photo-nucleation from Ag2 + to Ag 0 was verified through the temporal evolvement of photoluminescence intensity centered at about 435 nm after the removal of UV light. Expected optical polarizing characteristics was obtained through the proposed method, indicating that a simple and convenient way to prepare polarizing glasses of large size is to come true.
