Abstract

A new gastropod fauna from Middle Santonian sediments of Lengede (north of the Harz mountains, northern Germany) is systematically described. 18 species can be distinguished, 12 of them are assigned to known species, and one new species is described: Amathina inversa, which is the oldest member of the pyramidelloid family Amathinidae. Most species have a geographic distribution along the northern margin of the low northern German mountain ranges, approximately from Aachen in the west to the Elbe river valley to the east, and through the Elbe river valley into northern Bohemia (Czech Republic). An interesting exception is Acanthoxenophora aff. sinuosa, which was previously only known from the Maastrichtian of Mexico. On the generic level, the described taxa are either cosmopolitans or belong to the Atlanto-Indian province of the later Late Cretaceous.
