Abstract

The structural and vibrational study of the ordered fluorides MZrF6 (M = Co, Zn) made it possible to clarify the Fm3m/R3 structural phase transition occurring in these materials as an improper ferroelastic one. A phenomenological model is proposed, including coupling terms between the octahedra rotation, the internal deformation of the M(Zr)F6 units and the shear strain.
