Julian Crib, a science writer has stated that:“Scientists have been so wrapped up in their work and their discoveries, they have forgotten to explain them to society that pays their miserable wages” and that...“They have omitted to put their work in language that ordinary people can understand. They have failed to explain its relevance to our daily lives – our health, wealth and well-being as a nation – and how to put it into practice in our industries”How true are these statements? Whether the statements are true or not, the need for scientists themselves to communicate with the rest of society exists. This presentation seeks ways to effect this communication and ends with a proposal on scientific journalism with the setting up of a Science Communication Centre for the popularization of science, within the Faculty of Science, in collaboration with the School of Communication Studies, both of the University of Ghana.
