A new set of real-time control system diagnostics and feedback algorithms was recently implemented on JET to prove the feasibility of determining the most important plasma quantities, with high accuracy and time resolution. JET real-time control implements a distributed system, with many independent stations, communicating via an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) protocol. The JET real-time system is also a good environment to test innovative computational concepts software like digital neural networks (DNN). The JET real-time control system includes a wide set of diagnostics, covering the magnetic configuration, the current profile and the main kinetic parameters of the electron and ion fluids.
