Abstract

By application of IR, UV−vis and EXAFS spectroscopy coupled with factor analysis (FA) and DFT calculations it is shown that the aqueous systems of uranium(VI) with acetic (ac) and succinic (suc) acid give complexes of the same stoichiometry: 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3. FA enables a separate investigation of the acting single species. This allows an identification of the prevailing mode of coordination for each complex by interpreting the observed structural parameters (EXAFS) and the shifts of important vibration modes (IR).
