Abstract

ABSTRACT A parametric study of the response torsional of bilinear base isolators due to eccentricities associated to the spatial distribution of stiffnesses for the superstructure is presented. Four different fundamental fixed-based periods for the superstructure were considered. Nonlinear dynamic analyses were used to study peak responses for different ratios of the static eccentricities (0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) between the center of mass and the center of rigidity for the superstructure, in two orthogonal directions, evaluating the dynamic response for bidirectional input of ground motions typical of firm soils in a period range 1.5 s ≤T a ≤ 3.0 s for the base-isolated structures.
