Abstract

Purpose: Euromacs database was created 2009 (Ref. 1). The University Hospital Bern reports to Euromacs all patients (pts) since Jan 1, 2011, who received a ventricular assist device (VAD). We present for the first time an example of a comparison of outcome data of a single institution with the entire Euromacs database. Methods: Data were collected between 1/2011 and 6/2014. Follow-up began at the time of implantation and was updated per 12/2014. Statistics: The entire Euromacs cohort (including the Bern data) was compared to Bern using standard 95% confidence intervals (CI) for means and Kaplan-Meier estimates and Wilsons continuity corrected CIs for categories. Results: 36 Bernese VAD pts were enrolled in the Euromacs Registry. Baseline characteristics, operative and postoperative data are summarized in Fig. 1. To decide best timing for implantation, Intermacs profile was used, as well. Majority of pts were in Intermacs 3-4 (9 of our 32 pts) Fig. 2.
