Abstract

Essential oil composition of fresh needles from Pinus caribaea Morelet (Carribean pine) grown in Nigeria was investigated by a combination of CC and GC/MS. The 44 oil constituents, obtained by hydrodistillation, were largely dominated by monoterpene hydrocarbons (83.6%). The present investigation revealed the abundance of limonene (42.9%) and beta-phellandrene (24.4%). beta-Caryophyllene (7.6%) occurred in a significant proportion among the sesquiterpenes.
