Abstract
A cytotoxic alkaloid, lepadiformine 1, with a new heterocyclic skeleton, has been isolated from the ascidian Clavelina lepadiformis. The structure of 1 was established on the basis of chemical properties and by spectroscopic means : it includes a unique zwitterionic-like moiety.
