Abstract

"Antiviral activity of Musa acuminata Colla, Musaceae." This study evaluates the antiviral activity of extracts and, fractions of Musa acuminata Colla collected in two regions of Rio de Janeiro State (Petropolis and Santo Antonio, de Padua). The inflorescences of M acuminata showed excellent activity for the two virus evaluated: simple human herpesvirus type 1 and simple herpesvirus type 2, both resistant to Acyclovir. The results indicate that the tested extracts of M. acuminata can be potential target for use in antiviral therapy.
