Abstract

INSPIRE provides a major step forward in sharing geospatial and environmental information across Europe. Particularly the data models (INSPIRE Data Specifications), which went through an intense open and participatory consensus building process, provide an impressive asset. Still, when applying INSPIRE to the environmental acquis or any other domain in which the available data sets cross several INSPIRE themes, these specifications are might be perceived overwhelming. This poster suggest a less prominent yet highly important role for INSPIRE, especially the data models, and explains how INSPIRE is not necessarily the center of gravity for all domains, which include an environmental or geospatial dimension.
