Abstract

ABSTRACT An in-depth analysis of the observed damage in both structures and the subsurface after the April 4, 2010 El Mayor-Cucupah Earthquake is presented, based on a field survey and the critical review of previous studies conducted for both Mexicali city and valley. It can be highlighted the liquefaction phenomena observed in Mexicali valley and in lesser extent, in Mexicali city, as well as the high vulnerability of adobe houses. The observed damage in masonry and steel structures are described, as well as the satisfactory seismic behavior observed in a base-isolated urban bridge.
