Abstract

The structure of the title compound, [Ni(C10H8N2)2-(H2O) 2](ClO4)2, consists of monomeric [Ni(bipy)2-(H2O)2]2+ cations (bipy is 2,2′-bipyridine) and perchlorate anions. The Ni atom has octahedral coordination comprised of two water O atoms and four N atoms from two chelating bipy groups [mean values: Ni -Owater 2.089(5) and Ni - Nbipy 2.066 (6) Å]. Hydrogen bonding plays an important role in consolidating the crystal structure.
