Abstract

A project involving the synthesis of an isomorphic double sulfite series and characterization by classical inorganic chemical analyses is described. The project is performed by upper-level undergraduate students in the laboratory. This compound series is suitable for examining several chemical concepts and analytical techniques in inorganic chemistry. The project is a group effort conducted by three students during one entire semester beginning with the planning of the experiments and concluding with the presentation of the complete data in a final seminar. The execution of this project will allow students to gain experience with science-process skills and improve their oral communication. Keywords (Audience): Upper-Division Undergraduate
