Abstract

Indocyanine green (ICG) video angiography has become an inseparable part of neurosurgical armamentarium in various centers worldwide. Since its introduction in 2007, many applications in neurovascular and tumor surgeries have been proposed for this technique and the number is still increasing. In this presentation, available technologies such as microscope or cameras required for these techniques are introduced briefly and a proposal for a custom-made camera to detect ICG is made. Also, we demonstrate how ICG angiography can be useful in different stages of neurovascular procedures such as aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation, carotid stenosis, and cerebral revascularization surgeries. Further applications in tumor pathologies such as para-falcine meningiomas and hemangioblastomas as well as in endoscopic third ventriculostomy will be reviewed. Finally, we will compare the results of the case series using this technologies versus those applying intra-operative conventional angiography and discuss pros and cons of each modality.
