The protected area of Vaduri-Pângăraţi lakes is home to many bird species, some of them being of great conservation concern. Closely associated with the natural environment, the presence of a specific plant community plays a very important role in feeding and sheltering birds during the nesting and migration period. To show how the habitat characteristics can influence the bird diversity we recorded habitat types, bird species diversity and phenology and correlated habitat area and functions to observed number of bird species. We found that the bird species composition is strongly related with specific types of vegetation communities and that bird species diversity is not governed by any one single habitat function, but rather the combined effect of all three.
