Abstract

Methane eddy covariance made at very tall tower mixed forest–wetland in northern US.•Annual terrestrial methane efflux was 1% in magnitude of carbon dioxide uptake.•Eddy covariance flux magnitude consistent with static chamber fluxes.•Ecosystem model simulates seasonal but not short or interannual variation of methane flux.
