Abstract

The blending of a low softening point petroleum pitch and a nitrogenated resin was analyzed. A standard binder petroleum pitch with a low softening point and a low carbon yield was used. A mild treatment at atmospheric pressure of a low softening point petroleum pitch and a nitrogenated resin allowed to raise the softening point of the pitch to the values useful for the preparation of carbon fibers.
