Abstract

Rotundifolone (1), an oxygenated monoterpene isolated from the essential oil of the leaves of M. x villosa, showed significant analgesic effect in acetic acid induced writhing, tail-flick and tail-immersion methods. In the tail-immersion test, the analgesic effect of rotundifolone was blocked by naloxone pretreatment, indicating a possible action involving an opioid mechanism.
