Abstract

The authors report on a possible explanation for the observation of overlapping ion energy distributions in the precipitation ions observed in the cusp region. The authors invoke reconnection events in the magnetopause as a possible source of the ion distributions observed in the precipitation signals. They discuss events recorded by satellite probes.
