Abstract

The capability of the ESA near-future ENVISAT ASAR radar to discriminate boreal forest from clear-cut areas and agricultural land was investigated under various seasonal conditions. Airborne data from the HUTSCAT scatterometer at C-band HH, VV, and VH/HV polarizations, incidence angles 23, 30, 37 and 45 degrees were employed. The C-band results were compared against X-band results
