Abstract

C-banding and silver-staining of the mitotic chromosomes of the red deer Cervus elaphus (2n = 68) has demonstrated the presence of constitutive hetero-chromatin in the pericentromeric region of every chromosome except the single pair of metacentrics which characterize this species. The nucleolus organizer regions are located terminally on two of the acrocentric pairs.
