This essay presents the results of an investigation conducted by a team of researchers of the Department of Library Science of the National University of La Plata (Argentina), the title for which was “Procedures for Information Searching and in Library Usage by Researchers and Professors in the National University of La Plata”. The main objective of this research was to study the patterns of behavior of the professors at the Faculty of Humanities and Education and their use of information resources within the University Libraries, in particular those serving this Faculty. The first step of the study was to carry out a census in order to determine the proportion of researchers who use and who do not use the Library as part of their procedures for collecting information, as well as the general characteristics of this use. This allowed the research team to identify groups of users. A number of cases were selected from each group in order to conduct in-depth interviews to gain access to the researchers’ own perspectives with relation to the topic under consideration.
