Abstract

This paper reports the effectiveness of carrying out the cycloaddi-tion reaction of styrene oxide (SO) and CO 2 without the use of any catalysts. A naturally abundant and cheap material, urea, was utilized in promoting the reaction by controlling the reaction conditions. The influence of reaction temperature, carbon dioxide (CO 2) pressure, amount of urea, and the reaction time on the selectivity of styrene carbonate (SC) was investigated.
