This study explores the types of actions people take to influence planning decisions and the possible associations between these engagement behaviors and trust. Three dimensions of trust are explored in this study: trust on neighbours, trust on community representatives and trust on the local authority. This study provides evidences that there are great differences in the trust level between active and less active residents of the community. In conclusion, this study recommends that in order to increase engagement and participation, future strategies should not only focus on improving the existing participation mechanisms, but emphasize on the fostering of trust between all actors involved in urban planning.
