The regularities and possible mechanisms of electrode processes occurring during the electrodeposition of the Cr-C alloy from an electrolyte based on Cr(III) sulfate with carbamide and formic acid as organic components were analyzed. The chromium electrodeposition was found to impose its kinetics on carbon inclusion in the alloy. The mechanism of carbon incorporation in the deposit was assumed to be the chemical interaction of the adsorbed organic particles with highly active chromium adatoms. During the stage discharge of Cr(III) ions to the metal, the rate of the limiting stage Cr(II) + 2e → Cr(0) increased when OH− or F− ions were included in the structure of the electrochemically active complex.
