Abstract

Prdm16 is a master regulator of brown adipogenesis and thus plays critical roles in body energy expenditure. Three recent studies identify microRNA-133 (miR-133) as a novel regulator of Prdm16 in muscle stem cells and both brown and white adipocytes, and point miR-133 as a potential therapeutic target to treat obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
