Abstract

Different substrates supported Pt-based electrocatalysts via carbonyl route and photo-deposition method were synthesized. These methods are responsible for the heterogeneous nucleation of platinum nanoparticles onto the substrate. Evidences of strong interaction between the metal and substrate are clearly brought into light from CO stripping experiments. The obtained results can be attributed to the catalytic mediation of the oxide under UV-irradiation to generate a Pt-M nanoalloy. The nature of the interaction appears to be induced by the nucleation type of particles onto the substrate. The substrate effect is responsible for modifying the stability of the catalysts, their electronic properties and consequently their catalytic activity towards the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and CO electro-oxidation.
