Abstract

The problem of obesity among the elderly group has become an important public health issue with the rapidly rising elderly population. Additional or different obesity criteria, apart from the general criteria of adult obesity, is needed to diagnosis obesity in the elderly population. Proper treatment of obesity for the aged group is necessary because obesity is related to various medical conditions, diseases and increased mortality. When managing obesity in the elderly group, caution should be taken not to decrease their bone density or muscle volume.
