A better understanding of the aberrant composition of erythrocyte membrane long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) for individuals at ultra-high risk (UHR) of psychosis is required for the development of new therapeutic agents. PUFA levels from an UHR sample (n=80) were compared to existing data from healthy controls (n=142). Results demonstrated significant PUFA deficits (ALA, EPA, all ω-6 PUFAs) for the UHR group. Findings provide a rationale for PUFA based interventions in emerging psychotic disorder.
