Abstract

Length scales of exchange-bias systems were exploited to fully tailor double-shifted hysteresis loops in a ferromagnetic (F)-antiferromagnetic (AF) system. The F-AF system was composed of a single F [Pt/Co] multilayer exchange coupled to an AF IrMn layer. The system exhibited a double-shifted loop consisting of one sub-loop shifted towards the negative field axis and the other towards positive fields, both with nearly the same vertical magnetization amplitude. It was shown that it is possible to engineer double-shifted loops with fully adjustable shapes in a system with anisotropy perpendicular to the plane composed of a single F multilayer exchange coupled to an AF.
