Abstract

The performance of a scintillation detector is highly influenced by the optical properties of the crystal. These properties, notably the optical scattering and absorption lengths, are not accurately known yet for LaBr3:Ce3+. Its strong hygroscopicity complicates the measurement of these properties. In this work a method is described to measure the optical scattering and absorption lengths of LaBr3:Ce3+ crystals.
