Graphene halides represent a new class of graphene derivatives possessing promising physical and chemical properties with multiple applications. Attachment of halogen atoms changes carbon’s hybridization of graphene from sp2 to sp3, which has significant impact on the electronic properties and local structure of the material. The fully fluorinated graphene derivative, fluorographene (FG), is the only stable stoichiometric graphene halide (C1X1). In this chapter, we discuss the structural aspects, chemistry, reactivity, and some interesting properties of FG and other partially fluorinated, chlorinated, brominated and iodine doped graphene. Furthermore patterned halogenation and heterostructures of graphene with graphene halides are highlighted.
